SINCE 1882

Our History

The firm Macintosh Cross & Farquharson has its origin in the early days of the Transvaal, in what was then the Zuid-Afrikaanse Republiek, in the late 19th century.

-

The firm, Macintosh and Kennerley were dissolved during 1913 when Kennerley retired to practice on his own in Pretoria and James Macintosh continued to practise under his own name.  James Macintosh took into partnership GN. Cross and his son, William Ross Macintosh with effect from 1 January 1917.

-

James Macintosh died in 1927 by which time Reginald Arthur Farquharson had stepped into his shoes. GN. Cross and WR. Macintosh carried on as Macintosh & Cross until the 31st of August 1929 when RA. Farquharson was admitted to the partnership and  Macintosh Cross & Farquharson, as it is still known to this day, was formed.

-

Whilst in practice, G N Cross & James Macintosh between them held office as councillors of the Law Society for more than 45 years.

-

Today Macintosh Cross & Farquharson is a well-established partnership maintaining offices near the first offices of the partnership in Pretoria. Not only are we one of the oldest law firms in Pretoria, we also have since our humble beginnings grown to become one of the leading legal firms in Gauteng.

-

We have a broad base of specialist attorneys in a wide range of practice areas which enables our firm to provide our clients with comprehensive, specialised legal advice and legal services of the highest standards.
